Opportunity Overview

The development objective of the Emergency Human Capital Project for Yemen is to provide essential health, nutrition, water, and sanitation services to the population of Yemen. The project comprises of four components. The first component, improving access to healthcare, nutrition, and public health services aims to continue to ensure the delivery of minimum service package (MSP) services and strengthen the integration of the primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare and community levels. It consists of following sub-components: (i) improving access to MSP services at primary healthcare level; (ii) improving access to essential preventive and curative nutrition services; (iii) improving access to the MSP at secondary and tertiary healthcare levels; and (iv) sustaining the national health system preparedness and public health programs. The second component, improving access to water supply and sanitation (WSS) and strengthening local systems aims to support and improve the provision of WSS services for the population of Yemen by rehabilitating medium to large WSS infrastructure, prevention, and response to communicable diseases, and strengthening the capacity of key local water and sanitation institutions in selected urban, pre-urban and rural areas at the decentralized levels. It consists of following sub-components: (i) restoring access to and improving quality of WSS services in selected urban and rural areas; (ii) emergency support for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions to prevent and respond to communicable diseases; and (iii) enhanced capacity building of water and sanitation institutions at the local level.
