The development objectives of the Air Quality Improvement Project for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are to strengthen air quality monitoring and management and reduce air pollutant emissions from the residential heating and transport sectors in the Federation of BiH (FBiH). The project comprises of four components. The first component, strengthening air quality monitoring and management objective is to help further develop and strengthen air quality management (AQM) across the different levels within the FBiH. It consists of following sub-components: (i) improving the air quality monitoring network at the FBiH level and downstream improvements at the cantonal level; (ii) strengthening the air quality center in Sarajevo canton; and (iii) strengthening air quality monitoring and management practices in participating cantons. The second component, scaling up sustainable heating and energy efficiency in residential houses will implement a grant scheme to make investments in distributed sustainable heating and energy efficiency more affordable for households. The third component, supporting the transition to low‐emission transport will finance investments and technical assistance to support Sarajevo canton’s vision of transitioning toward a low‐emission urban mobility system as articulated in sustainable urban mobility plan (SUMP). It consists of following sub-components: (i) improvement of the bicycling infrastructure and facilities; (ii) development of approaches to implement low‐emission measures; and (iii) provision of low‐emission public transport vehicles and improvement of bus fleet management.
