The objective of the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Program for Burundi is to prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease) and strengthen national systems for public health preparedness. The Project has four components. 1. Emergency COVID-19 Response component will provide immediate support to countries to prevent COVID-19 from arriving or limiting local transmission through containment strategies. 2. Supporting National and Sub-national, Prevention and Preparedness component will finance requirements of Infrastructure, Equipment, Reagents and Commodities. It will cover laboratory related costs identified in the Government of Burundi (GoB’s) operation plan as well as costs related to coordination. 3. Community Engagement and Risk Communication component will support development of systems for community-based disease surveillance. This component will support rebuilding community and citizen trust that can be eroded during crises. 4. Implementation Management and Monitoring and Evaluation component will support costs associated with project coordination by the Ministry of Finance and costs associated with project implementation management by the Ministry of Health (MoH). This component will also support Monitoring and Evaluation (M and E) of prevention and preparedness, building capacity for clinical and public health research and joint learning across and within countries.
