Cote d'Ivoire Water Security and Sanitation Support Program

The development objective of the Water Security and Sanitation Support Project for Côte d’Ivoire is to increase access to safely managed water and sanitation services, to improve the management of water resources and to strengthen the technical performance of water sector institutions in selected regions of Côte d’Ivoire. The project comprises of five components. The first component, mobilization and management of water resources for multiple uses consists of following sub-components: (i) rehabilitation of dams; (ii) improving the knowledge and management of water resources; and (iii) implementation of integrated water resources management (IWRM) at the local level. The second component, improving access to drinking water services consists of following sub-components: (i) construction and rehabilitation of water supply systems; (ii) construction of 10 multi-village systems in rural areas and small towns; and (iii) water supply in health centers and schools. The third component, improving access to sanitation and hygiene services consists of following sub-components: (i) construction of household latrines in rural areas and measures to strengthen local participation in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); (ii) improving sanitation and hygiene in schools and health centers; and (iii) improving fecal sludge management in secondary cities. The fourth component, institutional strengthening and project management consists of following sub-components: (i) institutional strengthening; and (ii) project management. The fifth component, contingent emergency response component (CERC) will allow for rapid reallocation of International Development Association (IDA) credit uncommitted funds in the event of an eligible emergency as defined in OP 8.00.
