Edo Basic Education Sector and Skills Transformation Operation

The development objective of the Edo Basic Education Sector and Skills Transformation Operation Project for Nigeria is to improve the teaching and learning processes in basic education and expand access to quality digital skills and entrepreneurship development programs for youth in Edo State. The Edo Basic Education and Skills Development Program (BESDP) was developed as an umbrella framework to capture the state government’s approach to reform basic education and strengthen skills development and, consequently, employability in the state. The program comprises the government’s vision and plans to enhance the quality and delivery of basic education through its Edo basic education sector transformation (EdoBEST) initiative, as well as technical skills. The EdoBEST reforms are holistic and organized around five pillars to address challenges faced in basic education: pillar one, governance and institutional development; pillar two, teacher development and curriculum; pillar three, community participation and partnerships; pillar four, school infrastructure; and pillar five, organizational development for state universal basic education board (SUBEB) and the 18 local government education authority (LGEAs).
