This project is the first major academic exploration of the ecopolitical significance of the vampire. It proposes the
concept of 'vampire humanism', arguing that vampire texts often mimic and subvert the logic of anthropocentrism
by depicting vampires with a distorted humanist subjectivity that reflects contemporary relationships to animals.
By analysing popular vampire texts in literature, film, and television from 1975-present, a period of accelerated
systemic change in and critical reflection on human-animal relations globally, I will examine the ways in which
representations of vampires critically re-envision the exploitation of animals.
