Opportunity Overview
disorder (ADHD) face unique challenges in navigating the
digital world. While there is recognition of the benefits of
digital technology , there is also growing evidence of
negative impacts, particularly for neurodiverse children,
including those with ADHD.
ADHD is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and
impulsivity, which impair a child's psychological and social
functioning. This can strain parents, and lead to frustration,
stress, and family conflict. The difficulties experienced by
children with ADHD, such as sleep disturbances,
distractibility, and challenging behaviour may be
exacerbated by digital technology.
This project will explore in detail the challenges and
concerns related to parental management of technology to
inform the development of new support resource for
parents of children with ADHD. While more general
parenting support programs exist, none specifically address
the challenges posed by digital technology use within
families of children with ADHD.
The study will explore how digital technology is used by
children with ADHD, identify parenting challenges
associated with it, and co-design the new support materials
with parents and child behaviour experts. A tailored
resource will be created with guidelines and practical tips
to help parents manage their children's digital use for
positive behaviour and well-being. Its effectiveness will be
tested in a feasibility study.
