**Tackling Obesity in Dorset: A Compassionate Neighbourhood Approach**

We are launching a new service in Dorset to help reduce obesity by making sure everyone, no matter their background, has fair access to support, a good experience and better health outcomes.

Right now, even though there are good services in place, some groups still face big challenges:

* Children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

* Adults with Learning Disabilities

* Care experienced children, young people and adults and families affected by trauma

* Those living with serious mental health conditions

Over the next three years, we will:

* Identify which groups face the biggest challenges

* Understand the barriers they face by hearing from people with lived experience

* Design and test new ideas with people, families, carers and their communities

* Deliver new services which include tested new ideas

* Measure how well these ideas improve access, experience, and outcomes

* Create a model that can be used more widely across the country

You may have heard about new medications supporting adults to lose weight and more information can be found on the NHS Dorset website.

To help design new services for children, young people and adults, we want to understand and focus on the underlying causes of obesity, we know this will be complicated. Local people and professionals have told us that it can be more difficult for some people to access the support they need, because of where services are located, how services are provided and the types of support which are offered.

We will work closely with people across Dorset, including those with lived experience, children, young people and adults, families, carers, health and social care professionals, charities, universities, and community groups, to create personalised services and offers that reflect real-life needs and challenges.
