Quantum computing with machine learning

Quantum computing is expected to speed up some of the hard problems for conventional computers. While there is a reason to believe that quantum computing will really show a huge advantage, the researchers are still looking for practical applications of quantum computing. Factoring a large number is a clear example and if this is achieved, nearly all the public secret coding systems will be in danger. However, it requires millions of qubits to work together which will take some time to realise. There are also some other suggestions but no other applications are certain. In the meantime, there is debate on a possibility of using quantum computing to improve machine learning or artificial intelligence. While machine learning is becoming to gain industrial attention, there seem to be a lot to improve due to various problems including energy efficiency. Can a quantum computer help any of the problems machine learning faces? If so, what kind of problems can the quantum computer can show its advantages? These are the initial questions we want to answer in this project. There are recently a considerable amount of work in this direction. We will start with a review of some of the recent works.
