Opportunity Overview

Using program synthesis techniques, we intend to facilitate the construction of domain specific languages (DSLs) used by program synthesiser. The efficacy and viability of program synthesis is often limited by the required vocabulary, DSL, endowed to the synthesiser. An increase in vocabulary size gives rise to an exponential increase in computational and memory demands of the synthesiser. The size of the vocabulary is enforced by the use case, DSLs often require abstractions of complex processes into simple interfaces and hence require a large synthesis vocabulary with a wide variety of functionality. We will address this challenge by facilitating the construction of program synthesis DSLs through the combination of an iterative approach in conjunction with SMT/AI methods. We will apply this methodology to cases where the DSL is currently ill-defined and to occasions where the DSL is well defined but too large such as in automatic program lifting, whereby legacy code is translated to DSLs.
