The objectives of the Caribbean Air Transport Connectivity Project for Grenada are to (i) improve operational safety and navigation efficiency of air transportation, (ii) increase the climate and disaster resilience of Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) and (iii) strengthen Grenada’s capacity in civil aviation and airport management. The Project has four components. 1. Operational Safety and Resilience Enhancement component will improve MBIA operational safety and resilience and support Grenada’s efforts to comply with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO’s) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARP) and abide by the Port of Spain (POS) Declaration. 2. Technical Assistance and Capacity Building component will strengthen the institutional capacity of Grenada Airports Authority (GAA) and Civil Aviation Division through a combination of regional and Grenada-specific technical assistance and capacity building activities with a focus on enhancing aircraft operational safety, air transport sector regulatory oversight, airport management capability, climate/disaster resilience, and gender diversity in the workplace. 3. Project Management component will be implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Public Utilities, Energy, Transportation and Implementation (MOIID) with close coordination and participation from line agencies, including the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MOTCA), and the GAA responsible for MBIA. 4. Contingent Emergency Response component will provide immediate response to an eligible emergency.
