The objective of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Emergency Response Project in Honduras is to prevent, detect and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and strengthen national systems for public health preparedness. This project consists of two components. Component one is Emergency COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Response. There are two subcomponents: Subcomponent 1.1: Strengthen epidemiologic surveillance and diagnostic capacity of Ministry of Health (Secretaría de Salud, SESAL). This sub-component will support epidemiologic surveillance and diagnostic capacity of SESAL of Honduras. Subcomponent 1.2: Strengthen public health services to cope with increased demand of services posed by COVID-19 (Coronavirus). This sub-component seeks to finance the strengthening of the critical aspects of public health services, by equipping essential medical services, including ICUs, to provide optimal medical care to patients at risk as well as to minimize contagious risks for patients and health personnel. Component two is Implementation Management and Monitoring and Evaluation. This component would finance the required staff and operational costs of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) at the Honduran Strategic Investment Office (Inversión Estratégica de Honduras, INVEST-H) 30 to perform financial management, procurement, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and environmental and social functions, and to conduct project audits. This component would also support monitoring and evaluation of pandemic prevention and preparedness, building capacity for clinical and public health research, including joint-learning within Honduras and with other countries.
