Jamaica Education Project

The development objective of the Education Project for Jamaica is to improve teaching practices and learning conditions in secondary education, and the use of information for decision-making in the education system. The project comprises of five components. The first component, strengthening teaching and learning in secondary education consists of following sub-components: (i) support to teaching in secondary education; and (ii) support to articulation of flexible pathways and better use of learning assessments. The second component, supporting quality and resilient school infrastructure aims to improve access to quality and resilient school infrastructure through the construction of one secondary Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) school. The third component, strengthening information systems and strategies for student retention will support the development of an efficient information system to improve the overall management of the education sector and deploy targeted intervention strategies to support student retention, particularly at the secondary level. It consists of following sub-components: (i) strengthening the education management information system (EMIS); and (ii) strengthening early warning systems and targeted interventions for student retention. The fourth component, technical assistance (TA), strengthening institutional capacity, and project management will provide TA on key aspects of the education system, strengthen institutional capacity, and support management of project activities. It consists of following sub-components: (i) provision of TA for the education sector; and (ii) strengthening institutional capacity for project management and implementation.
