Jordan Water Sector Efficiency Project

The development objective of the Water Sector Efficiency Project for Jordan is to improve the efficiency of water services in Jordan. The project comprises of five components. The first component, sustainable non-revenue water reduction will focus on improving the efficiency of water supply services, through non-revenue water (NRW) reduction (commercial and technical) to improve water availability and revenues within the project areas. It consists of following sub-components: (i) improved service delivery and NRW reduction; (ii) modernized systems for sustaining NRW reduction; and (iii) community engagement to improve financial sustainability, collections efficiency, and demand control. The second component, increased energy efficiency (EE) and reduced energy supply costs will improve efficiency of the water sector by reducing energy used, costs and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by improving EE of existing water systems through pump and water equipment rehabilitation and replacement and installation of renewable energy (RE) systems. It consists of following sub-component: (i) improving energy efficiency in the existing water systems. The third component, water security measures to underpin efficiency improvements will support mechanisms to enable efficient and fair management of water resources, providing tools to adapt to the impacts of climate change. It consists of following sub-components: (i) strengthening drought management and water allocation systems; and (ii) safeguarding existing water storage. The fourth component, project management and implementation support will focus on project management required to implement this project and to strengthen systems for the planned series of projects (SOP). It consists of following sub-components: (i) project management and implementation support; and (ii) performance-based conditions (PBC) verification and audit support.
