Kiribati Health Systems Strengthening Project

The development objective of Health Systems Strengthening Project is to improve equitable access and quality of health services in targeted areas and in case of an Eligible Crisis or Emergency, respond promptly and effectively to it. This project has four components. 1) The first component, Improving equitable access and quality of health services on the outer islands, has the following sub-components: (i) improving capacity and quality of health services on the outer islands; and (ii) Improving domestic patient referral system and access to telehealth. 2) The second component, Strengthening quality and range of services provided through hospitals, has the following sub-components: (i) Rebuilding and equipping the district hospital in Kiritimati and equipping Tarawa central medical stores; and (ii) Strengthening health workers’ capacity, infection prevention control, and health care waste management in hospital. 3) The third component, Project management and health information system enhancement, has the following sub-components: (i) Project management enhancement; and (ii) Enhancing health information system. 4) The fourth component, Contingent emergency response, aims to allow for the reallocation of financing from other project components to provide an immediate response to an eligible crisis or emergency as needed.
