Lowlands Livelihood Resilience Project

The development objective of Lowlands Livelihood Resilience Project is to Improve Livelihood Resilience of Pastoral and Agro-Pastoral Communities in Ethiopia. This project has four components. 1) The first component, Integrated Rangeland Development and Management, aims to support the overall management of rangelands where Pastoral and Agro-pastoral (PAP) production systems operate. It has the following three subcomponents: (i) Integrated Rangeland Management Planning; (ii) Supporting Strategic Investments; and (iii) Conflict Management and Secure Access to Key Resources. 2) The second component, Livelihood Improvement and Diversification, aims to finance activities that will support three categories of communities, namely those who want to pursue the pastoral system, those who opt to diversify within the pastoral system including to agro-pastoralism, and those who have moved out of the PAP systems and are looking for alternative livelihoods options. It has the following two subcomponents: (i) Enhancing Pastoral and Agro-Pastoral Production Systems; and (ii) Promoting Livelihood Diversification and Market Access. 3) The third component, Improving Basic Services and Capacity Building, has the following subcomponents: (i) Provision of Basic Social Services and Infrastructure; (ii) Institutional Capacity Building; and (iii) Knowledge Management, Research, and Policy Support. 4) The fourth component, Project Management, Monitoring, and Evaluation, aims to ensure that the project is managed and implemented efficiently, on time, and in accordance with the project development objective (PDO) and financing agreement, and that its performance and effectiveness are tracked.
