Opportunity Overview

The development objective of Safer Roads for Socio-Economic Integration Program Project for Mozambique is to improve road connectivity, safety, and climate resilience in the Program areas. This project has five components. 1) The first component, Safe and Resilient Road Connectivity, aims to focus on safe and climate resilient rehabilitation, improvement, and maintenance of the most critical and climate vulnerable sections of the N1 corridor through Output- and performance-based road contracts (OPBRC). 2) The second component, Community Engagement and Women Empowerment, will explore ways to focus on women not as SEA/SH survivors, but as productive community members with voice and agency, and create jobs for women through multiple community-based pilots in the roads sector. 3) The third component, Improved Road Safety Management, will finance necessary technical assistance to help the government achieve SDG 3.6 (decrease the number of road crash fatalities by 50 percent by 2030). 4) The fourth component, Institutional Development and Project Management, aims to finance institutional development, capacity building, and project management costs. 5) The fifth component, Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC), aims to facilitate access to rapid financing by allowing uncommitted project funds to be reallocated in the event of a natural disaster upon formal declaration of a national or regional state of emergency and a formal request from the government.
