The development objective of the Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education Project for India is to improve quality, equity, and governance in technical education in select states and participating institutions. The project comprises of three components. The first component, improving quality and equity in participating institutions will focus on improving quality, employability, and equity in technical education in participating institutions in select states. It consists of following sub-components: (i) strengthening participating institutions to enhance student skills and employability; (ii) promoting equitable access; and (iii) promoting multidisciplinary education. The second component, improving research for better skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation will support better research and innovation outcomes, and address barriers faced by women in pursuing careers in research and innovation. It consists of following sub-components: (i) competitive research fund (CRF) and research hubs; (ii) developing incubation and innovation ecosystems; and (iii) institutional research and innovation capacity building. The third component, sector steering, including governance and internal and external quality assurance will support the states and institutions to build this capacity through peer exchange and training on a large scale through dedicated grant schemes. It consists of following sub-components: (i) quality assurance; (ii) governance; (iii) leadership training and academic careers; and (iv) project management and technical assistance.
