Opportunity Overview

The development objective of the Nigeria for Women Program Scale-Up Project for Nigeria is to institutionalize women affinity groups (WAGs) and other platforms for women’s economic empowerment and enhance the economic opportunities of unbanked women. The project comprises of three components. The first component, building community institutions will support the creation of WAGs that will build on mutual help practices and leverage the WAGs as an institutional platform to support access to finance; enhance women’s voice, agency, and resilience to climate change impacts; and drive behavior change. It consists of following sub-components: (i) influencing social norms; (ii) WAGs and federations; and (iii) platforms for behavior change in health, water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and climate adaptation. The second component, livelihood program aims to facilitate improvement in WAG members’ livelihood opportunities through community investment funds (CIFs) and livelihood collectives. It consists of following sub-components: (i) CIF; (ii) support to livelihood collectives; and (iii) technical assistance and innovations for livelihoods programs. The third component, project management, monitoring and evaluation, and learning will finance project management, monitoring, evaluation, and learning at the federal and state levels, and will build government capacity to facilitate the implementation of project activities and ensure their sustainability.
