The development objective of the Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) Project for Pakistan is to provide equitable and sustainable access to safely managed water and sanitation and reduce child stunting. The project comprises of four components. The first component, WSS infrastructure development will finance infrastructure to help address the lack of WSS systems in rural Punjab that underlies the low access to safely managed water and sanitation and poses threats to public health and the environment. It consists of following sub-components: (i) sanitation infrastructure development; and (ii) water supply infrastructure development. The second component, behavior change and capacity development will finance activities that facilitate and induce health protective behavior change and build community capacity to support WSS service delivery. It consists of following sub-components: (i) awareness raising and behavior change related to Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and safe wash practices; and (ii) training and capacity building of village-level institutions. The third component, service delivery improvement consists of following sub-components: (i) establishing institutions and building capacity for service delivery; (ii) solid waste and animal waste management; and (iii) water quality monitoring. The fourth component, project management and monitoring consists of following sub-components: (i) project monitoring through a customized management information system; and (ii) strengthening of the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company (PRMSC).
