Second Bangladesh Green and Climate Resilient Development Credit

The development objective of the Second Bangladesh Green and Climate Resilient Development Credit Project is to support the government of Bangladesh in transitioning to green and climate-resilient development. This will be achieved by enhancing public planning, financing, and delivery of green and climate-resilient interventions, and promoting key sector reforms for clean and resource-efficient production and services. The project aligns with Bangladesh’s 8th Five-Year Plan (FY21–25), which aims to eliminate extreme poverty, achieve upper-middle-income country status by 2031, and high-income country status by 2041. The plan includes comprehensive structural reforms to accelerate sustainable growth, build climate resilience, enhance public services, and manage the environment and natural resources better. The Development Policy Credit (DPC) series supports priority areas of the Government Program, contributing to the 8th FYP, Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 (BDP), National Adaptation Plan (NAP), and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDCs) by integrating green and climate resilience priorities in public investment planning, incentivizing local actions, enabling access to carbon markets, promoting sustainable public procurement, and setting a legal and institutional framework for effective implementation. The project is aligned with the WBG Country Partnership Framework (CPF) FY23–FY27 and the goals of the Paris Agreement, incorporating lessons from previous DPCs in Bangladesh and other countries.
