Second Ethiopia Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Project

The development objective of Second Ethiopia Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Project is to increase access to enhanced water supply and sanitation services in an operationally efficient manner in Addis Ababa and selected Secondary Cities. 1) The first component, Sanitation and water supply services improvements in Addis Ababa, will finance the construction of sanitation facilities in various settlements and socio economic situations and will seek to implement appropriate cost-effective sanitation options. It has three subcomponents as follows: (i) Sanitation services improvement in Addis Ababa; (ii) Operational efficiency improvements in Addis Ababa; and (iii) Project management and institutional strengthening in Addis Ababa. 2) The second component, Sanitation and water supply services improvement in secondary cities, twenty two cities selected from all the regional states and the Dire Dawa city administration will be supported. It has three subcomponents as follows: (i) Sanitation services improvement in secondary cities; (ii) Water supply and operational efficiency improvement in secondary cities; and (iii) Project management and institutional development in secondary cities. 3) The third component, Project management and institutional strengthening, will help Ministry of Water, Irrigation, and Electricity (MoWIE) and Regional Water Bureau (RWBs) manage the project and strengthen their institutional capacity, and will include short term training, study tours, and carefully planned acquisition of office equipment, and vehicles.
