Opportunity Overview

The development objective of Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project is to improve the climate resilience and safety of the recipient's road and aviation sectors, and in case of an eligible crisis or emergency, respond promptly and effectively to it. This project has four components. 1) The first component, Climate Resilience and Safety Investments in the Aviation Sector, has the following sub-components: (i) Honiara Airport Infrastructure Investments; (ii) Munda Airport Infrastructure Investments; (iii) Santa Cruz Airfield Infrastructure Investments; (iv) Modernization of Air Navigation Systems; and (v) Regional Airport Maintenance. 2) The second component, Climate Resilience and Safety Investments in the Road Sector, has the following sub-components: (i) Malaita Bridges Improvement; and (ii) Noro Roads Improvement. 3) The third component, Institutional Strengthening and Project Management, has the following sub-components: (i) Technical Assistance; and (ii) Project Implementation Support. 4) The fourth component, Contingent Emergency Response, is designed to provide swift response in the event of an Eligible Crisis or Emergency, by enabling SIG to request the World Bank to reallocate project funds to support emergency response and reconstruction.
