Sindh Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Project

The development objectives of the Sindh Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Project for Pakistan are to: (a) rehabilitate damaged infrastructure and provide short-term livelihood opportunities in selected areas of Sindh province affected by the 2022 floods; and (b) strengthen the Government of Sindh’s capacity to respond to the impacts of climate change and natural hazards. The project comprises of five components. The first component, infrastructure rehabilitation aims to enhance physical resilience through the restoration, rehabilitation, and improvement of critical irrigation and flood protection infrastructure, water supply schemes, roads, and allied infrastructure in flood-affected areas. It consists of following sub-components: (i) rehabilitation of irrigation and flood control infrastructure; (ii) restoration of roads and allied infrastructure; and (iii) restoration of water supply schemes. The second component, livelihoods support will support livelihoods by carrying out of a cash for work program for communities across affected villages with the assistance a of a social mobilization partner (SMP). The third component, institutional strengthening for resilience and technical assistance consists of following sub-components: (i) expansion of Sindh emergency rescue service; (ii) enhancing preparedness capacity for disasters; and (iii) strategic studies for integrated irrigation, drainage, and flood protection.
