The objectives of the São Paulo Aricanduva Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Corridor Project for Brazil are to improve mobility and accessibility to jobs for socially vulnerable public transport users in the influence area of the Aricanduva Corridor and enhance operational efficiency of the São Paulo city bus system. The Project has three components. 1. Development of a high-quality BRT system on the Aricanduva Corridor component has two subcomponents. 1.1. Construction of a BRT system on the Aricanduva Corridor subcomponent will support the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Infrastructure and Works in carrying out civil works, purchasing equipment for the BRT System, implementing engineering supervision, environmental and social monitoring of civil works on the Aricanduva Corridor. 1.2. Land expropriation required for the BRT corridor development subcomponent will also support the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Infrastructure and Works (SIURB) in acquiring an area of approximately 4,900 square meters distributed in 1 to 2 meters wide strips of land at a few intersections along the Aricanduva Corridor. 2. Upgrading of the bus operational control center component will finance the upgrading of the bus Operation Control Center (OCC) with state-of-art technologies. 3. Project management and capacity building on transport planning and policies component has three subcomponents. Subcomponent 3.1 will support daily operation of the Project Management Unit (PMU). Subcomponent 3.2 will support project management, monitoring and evaluation, and stakeholder/citizen engagement. Subcomponent 3.3 will finance capacity building related to public transport planning and policies.
