Southern Waterway Corridors and Logistics Development Project

The objective of the Southern Waterway Corridors and Logistics Development Project for Vietnam is to improve the capacity, efficiency, and safety of the transport infrastructure of the East-West and North-South Waterway Logistics Corridors. There are three components to the project, the first component being selected sections of the east–west waterway logistics corridor. This component supports the improvement of the East-West Waterway Logistics Corridor, through rehabilitating and upgrading infrastructure bottleneck sections of the corridor to meet Vietnam Class II Inland Waterways Standards, for vessels up to 600 tons and 3-tier container ships to navigate full time and vessels up to 1,500 tons to navigate during high tides. The East-West Waterway Logistics Corridor, a total length of about 197 km, covers the inland waterway corridor in the Mekong delta region, connecting Can Tho Port with HCMC Port at the shortest distance. The second component is the selected sections of the north-south waterway logistics corridor. This component supports the improvement of the North-South Waterway Logistics Corridor, through rehabilitating infrastructure bottleneck sections of the corridor, for vessels up to 5,000 tons and 4-tier container ships to navigate. Finally, the third component is the project implementation support.
