The development objectives of Strengthening the Resilience of Ecuadorian Schools Project are to: (i) improve the safety, resilience, and quality of physical learning environments and prepare preschool students for learning in selected public schools; and (ii) in case of an Eligible Crisis or Emergency, respond promptly and effectively to it. There are four components to the project, the first component being supporting resilient, inclusive, and learning-centered school infrastructure. This component will support investments in school infrastructure for basic education in Ecuador to ensure that they are inclusive, climate and seismic resilient, energy-efficient, healthy, and learning-centered, following norms of universal access. This component includes three subcomponents: improving resilience to climate events and other crises, adaptation, rehabilitation, and construction of schools for safety and quality, and replacement of damaged infrastructure. The second component is the strengthening fundamental skills and equipping children to learn. This component includes three subcomponents: implementation of new pedagogical models and classroom adaptation in ECE, creation of reading environments in rural schools, and technical studies and evaluations. The third component is the strengthening project management. This component will provide technical assistance and resources for the implementation and monitoring of the project. Finally, the fourth component is the contingent emergency response component.
