The capacity expansion on the Zurich–Zug–Lucerne line, as decided in STEP AS 2035, requires extensive infrastructure upgrades to eliminate this bottleneck. The most important element is the Zimmerberg Base Tunnel 2 between Thalwil and Litti. In addition, infrastructure upgrades are needed at the Baar, Baar Neufeld, Baar Lindenpark, and Zug stations, as well as a third track between Baar and Zug. SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) has developed a preliminary project for the expansion between Baar and Zug. Integrating a third track necessitates adjustments to the stations and stops along the affected section of the line. An additional fourth platform will be constructed at Baar station. At Zug station, the entire northern end of the station must be adapted to the new track layout, and a new pedestrian underpass will be built simultaneously on behalf of the city of Zug. The project is essentially divided into the following four areas: - Baar station area: Phased reconstruction of the station and construction of a fourth platform. Construction of a new pedestrian underpass and adaptation of the existing underpass. Replacement or modification of three underpasses. - Baar-Zug area: Construction of the third track with modifications to two stops. Replacement of two underpasses. Construction of a new bridge over the city bypass and construction of a new pedestrian underpass. - Zug area: Construction of the track layout in the northern section of the station in several stages. Conversion of the existing storage yard and construction of an additional one. Various modifications to the public facilities and construction of a new pedestrian underpass for access to the neighborhood and the railway. - Zug Chollermüli area: Construction of a new track crossover and a switching station. The planning of the technical systems includes the planning and construction management of the following specialist areas from the construction project phase onwards: - HVAC systems - Electrical systems
