The former horticultural institute building, later converted into the "Hans Settegast" general education school, located at Werner-Sylten-Straße 14 in Bad Köstritz, has a rectangular floor plan, four stories, a gently sloping gable roof (nail trusses), and a basement extending approximately 32 meters in length. The building was constructed in 1903, converted into a general education school in 1966, and has been used as a secondary school since 1990. The entire basement was flooded in 2013. The building is classified as a special-purpose building, belonging to building class 5. The planned renovation and expansion of the "Hans Settegast" secondary school in Bad Köstritz is necessary due to the backlog of renovations in recent years. Action is particularly needed regarding fire safety and accessibility. A planned extension will expand existing capacity and implement an innovative school concept. The work includes the renovation of the existing building (electrical, heating, plumbing, flooring and painting, fire protection, accessibility) and the construction of a modern extension. In addition to the complete renovation of the existing building, a three-story new building is planned. An old side building will be demolished.
