The LVR Clinic Cologne is planning a multi-story replacement building, constructed to passive house standards, for the existing Ward V, which is built using modular construction. The gap created by the demolition will be filled. Together with the existing buildings, this will create a cohesive square with an attractive inner courtyard. A new focal point, reflecting contemporary architectural style, will thus be created at the center of the entire complex. The program of spaces is distributed across five levels and is divided into the following functions: day clinic, outpatient clinic, public health ward, and WL ward. The new building comprises a hospital ward building (basement to 3rd floor, 26,293 m³ gross volume) with outdoor facilities. Construction will be carried out while the hospital remains fully operational, with strict separation between construction and clinical operations.
