The project aims to modernize and renovate the subway station on all structural levels to address operational, technical, and functional deficiencies and create a state-of-the-art facility that meets current and future requirements. The installation of photovoltaic systems on all station canopies is also planned. In addition to the modernization and renovation of the subway station, the technical upgrade of the Alte Heide tunnel section to current standards will be carried out. Furthermore, the costs of upgrading the Alte Heide storage yard to current standards will be included in the project. Other measures include fire safety upgrades; raising parapets; concrete repairs; platform and platform canopy upgrades; preparatory measures for the retrofitting of platform screen doors; installation of photovoltaic systems; modernization of building services; architectural redesign of the mezzanine level; a marketing campaign; and a new spatial concept for the surface area with expanded operational spaces. Planning and execution will be carried out using Building Information Modeling (BIM). This is also a BIM2InfraFM project. Construction will take place within the existing structure and while the station remains operational. Total usable floor area (GNF) of GI train station approx. 3,034 m²
