The Bavarian State Police have a concept for the standardized outfitting of uniformed traffic police vehicles with a trunk conversion featuring heavy-duty drawers and specially designed equipment for securing accident and hazard sites on federal highways. A key objective of this concept is to effectively improve the safety of police officers deployed on federal highways and to optimize the use of trunk space. A trial of illuminated folding barriers has shown that the safety of deployed police officers can be improved, among other things, by the faster setup and synchronization of the barriers. For this reason, the current storage concept of the Bavarian State Police is being revised, and the equipping of traffic police vehicles with folding barriers will become mandatory from January 1, 2027. Each vehicle will be equipped with eight (8) folding barriers. The folding beacons will gradually replace the existing equipment of mobile flashing beacons (telesynchronized flashing lights) and collapsible traffic cones. The illuminated folding beacons must comply with applicable standards and regulations, in particular those of the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), EN 12352, the German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO), and the technical delivery conditions for warning lights. The specific technical specifications required are defined in the contract documents. The anticipated procurement volume (estimated quantity) for the first two contract years was determined through a needs assessment conducted among the Bavarian Police headquarters: - 1st contract year (2025/2026): 136 units - 2nd contract year (2027): 336 units
