As part of its responsibilities, the Central Command for Maritime Emergencies (CME) deploys MIRG teams for firefighting and casualty care in shipwreck situations. In addition to transport by ship, the operational concept primarily involves airlifting personnel to the vessel in distress. Operations at sea pose inherent dangers for which the emergency responders must be prepared. To be trained for these tasks and to carry them out as safely as possible, potential responders must complete various training courses. This training includes the "Survival at Sea" course. For several years, the CME has contracted this course out to maritime training centers. To continue ensuring the highest possible level of safety for the responders and thus guarantee the operational readiness of the units, the course (ÜaS) is being tendered for another two years.
