WSIP-1 represents the first phase of the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Investment Program and aims to improve access to safe and reliable water services in selected rural and peri-urban areas of the southwestern Khatlon region, taking into account climate risks. The project focuses on areas with limited access to safely managed water services, high dependence on poor water sources, high levels of poverty, and limited investment. WSIP-1 will receive additional funding in the form of a grant from the European Union to help achieve the project's development objectives. The additional financing will help fill the funding gap and expand water supply services in priority settlements in the Vakhsh, Vose, Balkha and Dusti districts. The total financing of the project will improve water supply systems in 126 villages, covering about 280,000 people, and strengthen the institutional capacity of the housing and communal services.
