Togo Urban Water Security (TUWS)

The development objectives of the Urban Water Security Project for Togo are to increase access to and quality of water supply and sanitation services, and to improve the operational performance of the water supply services provider(s) and water resources management in Greater Lomé. The project comprises of six components. The first component, improving urban water supply services will aim to improve access to improved water supply services in Greater Lomé. The second component, strengthening sector institutions and efficiency is designed to contribute to the sustainability of water-related investments funded under component 1. It consists of following sub-components: (i) improving water utility of Togo (TdE’s) operational performance; and (ii) strengthening sector regulation and asset management. The third component, improving sanitation and hygiene aims to promote adequate sanitation and hygiene practices in Greater Lomé, which in addition to health benefits, will promote gender balance and contribute to the sustainable management of groundwater resources. It consists of following sub-components: (i) promoting water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in schools and health care centers; (ii) strengthening the fecal sludge management framework; and (iii) strengthening the fecal sludge management framework. The fourth component, strengthening water resources management will aim to improve the understanding and management of water resources in Greater Lomé. The fifth component, project management and sector studies will support Ministry of Water and Village Hydraulics (MEHV) in project coordination and studies preparations, as well as Société de Patrimoine Eau et Assainissement en Milieu Urbain (SP-EAU) and TdE in their contribution to project management activities from a technical perspective. Th sixth component, contingent emergency response will provide immediate response to an eligible crisis or emergency, as needed.
