Tunisia Emergency Food Security Response Project

The development objective of Tunisia Emergency Food Crisis Response Project is to ensure in the short-term the supply of (i) agricultural inputs for farmers to secure the next cropping season and for continued dairy production and (ii) wheat for uninterrupted access to bread for poor and vulnerable households; and to strengthen Tunisia’s resilience to food crises by laying the ground for reforms of the grain value chain. This project has three components. 1) The first component, Emergency support to farmers, will aim at cushioning the impact of increased agricultural input costs on production costs of small dairy and grain producers. 2) The second component, Emergency purchase of wheat for food security, aims at securing soft wheat purchases to avoid bread supply disruption in the third quarter of calendar year 2022. 3) The third component, Improving resilience to food security shocks and project management, aims at addressing distortions and structural weaknesses in the grain value chain and public support program to producers and consumers.
