Tunisia Sanitation PPP Support Project

The development objectives of the Sanitation Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Support Project for Tunisia are to: (a) increase access to and improve the quality of wastewater management services in selected areas of the country; and (b) strengthen Office National de l’Assainissement, Tunisian wastewater management utility (ONAS’) capacity to manage PPP contracts for the delivery of sanitation services. The project comprises of three components. The first component, wastewater management infrastructure rehabilitation and retrofitting cover provision of support for the carrying out of the following wastewater management infrastructure rehabilitation and retrofitting activities (including operation and maintenance) in the project areas. The second component, wastewater management infrastructure operation and maintenance will cover: (a) operation and maintenance by the operators of the wastewater management infrastructure rehabilitated and upgraded under component 1; and (b) the establishment and capitalization of separate escrow accounts for the payment of a monthly fee to the operators for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater management infrastructure rehabilitated and upgraded under component 1. The third component, institutional strengthening and project management will support strengthening of ONAS’ capacity to develop, manage, monitor, report on PPP transactions, including this project, and improve communication and community outreach.
