Tuvalu Health System Strengthening Project

The development objective of Health Systems Strengthening Project for Tuvalu are to improve delivery of select health services, strengthen health management systems, and in case of an eligible crisis or emergency, respond promptly and effectively to it. This project has four components. 1) The first component, Improve the Availability of Essential Public Health and Health Care Services Provided at Princess Margaret Hospital, has the following sub-components: (i) Increase the Physical Capacity of the Princess Margaret Hospital; and (ii) Increase the Human Resource Capacity of the Princess Margaret Hospital. 2) The second component, Strengthen the Delivery of Primary Health Care and Primary Prevention, with a Focus on Non-Communicable Diseases, has the following sub-components: (i) Improve the Delivery of Essential Primary Health Care Services at the Health Clinics, with a Focus on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Services; and (ii) Strengthen Public Health Approaches to Primary Prevention and Behavior Chan. 3) The third component, Support the Development of Management Systems, has the following sub-components: (i) Strengthen Management Systems for Better Service Delivery; and (ii) Project Management, Monitoring and Technical Support. 4) The fourth component, Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC), aims to support a rapid response and urgent assistance in respect of an event that has caused, or is likely to imminently cause, a major adverse economic and/or social impact to Tuvalu associated with a natural or man-made crisis or disaster.
