Urban Resilience Emergency Project

The development objective of Urban Resilience Emergency Project for Burundi is to respond to the flood emergency, increase flood resilience, and improve climate-resilient urban management in Bujumbura. This project has four components. 1) The first component, Emergency Flood Response and Climate-Resilient Infrastructure, has the following sub-components: (i) Emergency Response Interventions; (ii) Climate-Resilient Infrastructure; and (iii) Strategic studies for urban and flood risk management investments and resilient urban services. 2) The second component, Capacity Building and Institutional Strengthening for Urban Resilience, has the following sub-components: (i) Strengthening capacity for improved information, flood early warning services and emergency preparedness; (ii) Urban Management Capacity Building; and (iii) Strengthening the Resilience and Performance of Urban Water Services. 3) The third component, Project management, will finance incremental project management costs for the Project Implementation Unit (PIU). 4) The fourth component, Contingency Emergency Response, will provide an immediate response to an eligible crisis or emergency, as needed, by financing the implementation of emergency infrastructure rehabilitation and reconstruction.
