The objective of the Valorization of Investments in the Valley of the Benue Project for Cameroon is to provide sustainable irrigation and drainage services and improve agricultural production in irrigated areas of the Benue valley. There are four components to the project, the first component being improvements of infrastructures and water management. The component is organized into three subcomponents: (a) upstream water resources monitoring and coordination by operationalizing the Water Management Committee of Lagdo dam (Comité de Gestion de l’Eau du Barrage de Lagdo), as well as operation and safety of the Lagdo dam (which is managed by the publicprivate partnership company that produces and distributes energy in Cameroon named ENEO); (b) on the RB: irrigation rehabilitation of 1,090 ha and development of 4,230 ha, both for small farmers; on the left bank (LB): 3,628 ha for agro-industrial development and 1,496 ha for small farmers in existing villages within the perimeter; and (c) irrigation management transfer to the W.UAs on both banks. The second component is the support services for agricultural production. This component includes three subcomponents: e-vouchers for launching production in the irrigation perimeters, matching grants for production and agribusiness, and establishment of organizational management support centers. The third component is the capacity building and implementation. This component includes three components: institutional strengthening, agricultural innovation and training, and project implementation and monitoring and evaluation. Finally, the fourth component is the contingent emergency response.
