Opportunity Overview

The development objective of Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Project Using the Multiphase Programmatic Approach for Zambia is to strengthen health system resilience and multisectoral preparedness and response to health emergencies in Eastern and Southern Africa. This project has four components. 1)The first component, Strengthening the Preparedness and Resilience of the Health System to Manage Health Emergency (HEs), has the following sub-components: (i) Develop health workforce through training, regulatory and management mechanisms; and (ii) Operationalize information systems for HEs and digitalize the health sector. 2) The second component, Improving the Detection of and Response to HEs through a Multisectoral Approach, has the following sub-components: (i) Strengthen emergency management structures and processes and patient-centered health care provision; (ii) Risk communication and community engagement; and (iii) Climate change adaptive emergency preparedness and response. 3) The third sub-component, Project Management, will finance strengthening the capacity for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and project management. 4) The fourth component, Contingent Emergency Response, will facilitate access to rapid financing by allowing for the reallocation of uncommitted project funds in the event of a natural disaster in a country, either by a formal declaration of a national emergency or upon a formal request from the government.
