The Government of Malawi has received financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Malawi Emergency Power Restoration Project and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payments under the contract[1] for Rehabilitation Works for the Main Spillway, Reconstruction of Embankment Dam, Construction of Auxiliary Spillway, Construction of Permanent Irrigation Intake, Reconstruction of Right Dam Abutment, Reconstruction of Training Dike, Rehabilitation of Dam Instrumentation and Removal and Disposal of Cofferdams[2]. 2. The Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited now invites sealed Bids from eligible Bidders for Construction Works for Kapichira Dam Rehabilitation and Strengthening . The scope of works includes: Comprehensive rehabilitation and strengthening of Kapichira Dam by reconstruction of the damaged earthfill embankment dam, construction of emergency spillway with automatic Tops gates, construction of Permanent Irrigation Intake, construction of right dam abutment, main spillway rehabilitation, rehabilitation of training dyke and installation of modern dam instrumentation for dam safety monitoring. The scope of works aims at restoring full operational integrity of Kapichira Dam, making it more resilient against future climate change related events whilst also integrating an intake for irrigation services.
