Opportunity Overview

The development objective of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project for South Sudan is to prevent, detect, and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 and strengthen national systems for public health preparedness. The project comprises of five components. The first component, vaccine deployment, cold chain equipment, and community engagement will support the COVID-19 vaccine deployment efforts of the Ministry of Health (MoH). It consists of following sub-components: (i) climate friendly cold-chain; (ii) vaccine deployment and climate sensitive vaccine planning; and (iii) community engagement and behavior change. The second component, continued provision of essential health services in the states of Upper Nile and Jonglei will ensure continuation of the support to maintain the delivery of essential health services through the Provision of Essential Health Services Project (PEHSP), with some adjustments to improve service availability. It consists of following sub-components: (i) delivery of high impact essential health services in Upper Nile and Jonglei States; and (ii) delivery of high-quality secondary services to vulnerable and conflict-affected populations. The third component, building institutional capacity and strengthening health emergencies preparedness consists of following sub-components: (i) building institutional capacity at the MOH; and (ii) strengthening health emergencies preparedness. The fourth component, monitoring, evaluation, and learning will finance costs related to a common monitoring mechanism as well as monitoring of project activities.
