The contract is for the complete overhaul of sliding gate 2 of the Kiel Canal lock. The gate was built in 1912 and last underwent a major overhaul in the late 1980s. The Waterways and Shipping Administration currently does not have its own suitable repair facilities (dry dock or similar). Therefore, the scope of the entire project includes not only the repair work itself, but also the provision of a suitable repair site, the transport of the gate to the repair site by the contractor, and its return to the Kiel Canal lock of the Waterways and Shipping Administration after completion of the work. The gate consists of a riveted/bolted steel structure and, with a total height of approximately 19.0 m (top of grating level "E" to bottom of the truss bars), has four horizontal bars, labeled "A" to "D" from the bottom up. Between the gates "B" and "C" lies a continuous floating box 7.94 m wide (consisting of 16 floating and ballast tanks) running the entire length of the gate, while the overall width of the gates, including the guide and sealing timbers, is 8.75 m. The overall length is 46.51 m. The total weight of one sliding gate is approximately 1,200 t. The services include: transport of the sliding gate from Kiel to the repair site and back to the Kiel-Holtenau lock, including the necessary lifting operations. Steel construction work: Renewal of approximately 100 tons of steel structure; the steelwork will be largely constructed using bolted components. Pipeline construction: approximately 400 m. Scaffolding: approximately 2,900 m² of freestanding scaffolding on the exterior surfaces, approximately 5,600 m³ of internal scaffolding inside the gate, partially within the floating/ballast tanks. Corrosion protection: approximately 14,500 m²: Cleaning of steel surfaces from growth and soiling, remediation of contaminants by removing approximately 14,500 m² of contaminated coating, preparation of surfaces according to Sa 2 1/2, primer, intermediate, and topcoat.
