Opportunity Overview

The FAA has a requirement for the acquisition of ASR-8 Encoder (Part Number VOE-35-2795 and National Stock Number 5990-01-085-2056) and ASR-9 Encoder (Part Number VOE-35-2542 and National Stock Number 5990-01-319-5667). Sensor Systems LLC is the only known manufacturer for the ASR-8 and ASR-9 encoders.

These encoders are critical components of the antenna systems, providing azimuth position tracking necessary for proper radar operation.

The encoders manufactured by Sensor Systems, LLC have been placed under FAA AJW-146 Configuration Management Control as an approved and qualified component within the established system configuration baseline.

Alternate sources for these encoders would require initial engineering time, first article production, testing and approval followed by production time. This delay in providing production units could result in extended outages within the NAS due to demand and supply of this asset. As a result, an increased number of NAS facilities could experience extended outages while qualifying an alternate source.
