Opportunity Overview

The development objective of West Bengal Major Irrigation and Flood Management Project for India are to improve irrigation service delivery, strengthen flood risk management and improve climate change resilience in the project area. This project has two components. 1) The first component, Irrigation Management, aims to improve the management of the DVCA irrigation scheme. It has the following five subcomponents. It has the following five subcomponents: (i) Establishment of MIS, Performance Monitoring and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) ; (ii) Improving Service Delivery; (iii) Aquifer Management; (iv) Capacity Strengthening of Irrigation and Waterways Department (IWD); and (v) Associated Investments. 2) The second component, Modernization of Irrigation Infrastructure, aims to invest in the modernization of irrigation infrastructure at main, branch, distributary and minor level. It has the following two subcomponents: (i) Main and Branch Canal Modernization; and (ii) Distributary and Minor Canal Modernization. 3) The third component, Flood Management, aims to carry out structural measures to reduce flooding in the project area. 4) The fourth component, Project Management, aims to support overall capacity of IWD and State Project Management Unit (SPMU).
